GIS Day Prep and New Story Map
GIS Day Abstract
We continue to prepare ourselves for Purdue GIS day, we have created a rough draft of our poster to be presented and developed an abstract that summarizes our project very well. This poster and abstract need to get the viewers attention very quick and be able to showcase the focus of our research effectively. Our abstract is a quick overview for viewers to give them a good idea of who we, what we are doing and how we will be achieving it. Our main focus is to implement UAS effectively into search and rescue operations, we do this through the Loc8 software. A quick overview of how this is done and an introduction to the software allow viewers to quickly and effectively know the scope of our work. A copy of our abstract can be found here.GIS Day Poster Figures
To showcase our findings it is important for us to visually compare the time it takes for us to complete a mission with UAS and the time it takes to complete a mission using traditional methods. For our poster we will be using 3 different graphs that compare; Loc8 to Visual Analysis, Loc8 to Orthomosiacs and UAS mission time to On-Foot mission time. The on foot mission time was taken from the estimated average time from this search and rescue methods article. By showing these time comparisons it allows us to display our findings very well, viewers are able to see that our methods are working and are much faster. The graphs are pictured below.
ESRI Story Map Using Cascade Builder
We created another story map using esri's other story map platform, Cascade Builder. Cascade Builder allows the user to create a more immersive and interactive story map. This platform allows for a better integration of maps and the ability to "scroll and zoom" to specific features within a larger map. Our story map can be viewed by clicking the image below!
